Asheville and Western North Carolina generally are wonderful places for the arts. You will find many specific events in our Community Calendar. Here, we bring you "hands on" information about Being in the Arts.

Asheville Community Theater and 35below

Asheville Community Theatre, located in the heart of downtown Asheville, has a history of artistic excellence that spans six decades. ACT remains an institution committed to providing quality entertainment for a reasonable price. While best known for our large-scale musicals, ACT also offers classic comedies and dramas, contemporary pieces, and children's theatre productions in our 399 seat Mainstage auditorium. Our second performance space is 35below, an intimate black box theater which produces smaller, unconventional works, music and cabaret performances, and play readings of new and local pieces.

Haywood Arts Regional Theater

Welcome to one of the treasures of Western North Carolina. The Haywood Arts Regional Theatre, founded in 1985, is a volunteer-based community theatre showcasing the talents of the people of the region. HART, under the leadership of Executive Director Steven Lloyd, has grown into one of the most active theatres in the Southeast, producing a year-round schedule of plays and musicals from its home, The Performing Arts Center at the Shelton House. Opened in 1997, and funded by the support of people throughout the community, HART’s home is a stunning facility constructed in the style of the traditional Summer Stock playhouses of the 1920’s. Architect Joe Sam Queen and builder Pat Burgin used native materials to create a facility that is both grand and informal.

The Grey Eagle

The Grey Eagle is a listening room-style concert venue. While many performers we feature have dedicated followings, we cannot offer potential performers a built-in crowd. Likewise, while we love to discover new artists and enjoy being part of the early stages of their careers, we simply cannot host performers who are unknown to Asheville audiences. Like many listening rooms around the US, The Grey Eagle is a destination location: an artist must already have some "marquee value" in the Asheville area in order to perform here. If you are (or represent) an artist who is relatively unknown in Western North Carolina, there are many other more suitable options for you, and a quick search on the web should give you a host of possibilities. www.thegreyeagle.com
